Here is a little used free resource for increasing traffic to your blog, or website, called Pinterest. While many people are familiar with Pinterest, few have been able to increase traffic to their blog or website simply by “pinning.” If you are in that boat – read on and try this.
Basics
First some history: There are several categories of learners, which have been identified by researchers over the years, and they break down into four areas, of which the first two are of the greatest interest for most bloggers, and online businesses.
The categories are:
Visual
Auditory
Kinesthetic
Intuitive
In the online environment, the
first three have the greatest impact on visitors and customers. However, with regard Pinterest the Visual category is far and away the primary attraction – which means that the majority (but not all) Pinterest users are swayed by what they see.
Increase visitors
First things first – you will need to get an invite to Pinterest. Next you need to get the ‘Pin it button’ added to your web browser, and the ‘follow-me on Pinterest’ button added to your site; both are free.
Next, review your blog or website. Are there any relevant quality images that are not Adsense, or Youtube?
Four ways to draw more visitors
1) Nest or embed relevant high quality images in the body of your blog, or above the fold of your website; when visitors come through, they can ‘Pin’ the image (which takes the link to your blog with it) to Pinterest.
2) Pin your affiliate link, with a high quality image to Pinterest for the entire community to see, like, comment on, and re-pin.
3) Start your own ‘Board’ on Pinterest, where you can pin your own high quality images, and share them with your followers on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.
4) Browse Pinterest, find others with interests similar to your own and re-pin, like, and comment on their pins, they typically reciprocate. As an example I re-pinned this
image, added a simple comment – “What guilty really looks like,” and it started being re-pinned almost immediately!
The rule of multiples
The power in Pinterest is not so much in the first one or two people who re-pin your pin, but in the downline of those who pin after them. A popular pin can go viral in a matter of hours driving incredible traffic to the home link. Check out the traffic jump on my leadership site!
Increase subscribers
How does all this information translates into increased blog and website traffic? Simple. Check out your blog and following the “F” pattern discussed by Jakob Nielsen. When you place high quality images within your blog and along the key points along the “F” pattern where the eye naturally tracks, you can feed your primary message is to the readers’ subconscious. For example if you place your subscribe links with a high quality related image in the pattern, you increase the likeliness of that message being read by your visitors, which could increase your subscription traffic.
The key is having a high quality image to re-pin, if that can be accomplished, natural and unique traffic can come flooding your way...for free!
